Teaching Reading Is Rocket Science
~Louisa Moats, Ed.D.
~Louisa Moats, Ed.D.
We believe*:
- All children can learn.
- Every child has a right to be literate.
- Literacy skills should begin at the foundational level.
- Literacy instruction should be explicit, multi-sensory, and systematic.
- Instruction should include a gradual release of responsibility.
- All children deserve an engaging and appropriately challenging learning environment.
- All teachers are literacy teachers.
- Reading and writing are interdependent.
COMMON CORE WILL HELP US CREATE LITERATE, CRITICAL THINKERS BY REQUIRING STUDENTS TO:
- Read increasingly difficult books and articles, including fiction and non-fiction
- Research, analyze and present ideas
- Develop arguments grounded in evidence and communicate them in writing
